Qualifying Membership - To become a Qualifying Member of the Harvard Mountaineering Club, simply stop by any one of our meetings, held every Thursday at 8pm in the clubroom in Claverly Hall. The clubroom is reached through the main doors on Mt. Auburn St. at the very end of the righthand hallway. Undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, or other Harvard affiliates with any level of experience are welcome. Benefits include climbing camaraderie, gear loan and library access, as well as subscriptions to our publications and admission to club events.
Cost is $20 a year and you will also need to fill out a Medform and Waiver
Active Membership - Recognizing the high costs associated with frequent or long climbing trips, the HMC would like to offer some reciprocation to those who have shown a certain level of commitment to the club. Benefits of active membership include nifty cards, even more comradarie, and eligibility for HMC climbing subsidies (for weekend trips) and grants (for longer trips). Qualifying members may be elected to Active Membership after participating in one HMC rock climbing trip, one snow or ice climbing trip, and contributing at least five service hours to some club project (ex.- cleaning out the bouldering walls, organizing a slideshow, cabin maintenance, etc.). In addition, prospective active members must be able to demonstrate a set of basic safety and technical skills before becoming active members. Those seeking active membership should fill out this form, which also serves as a concise outline of the requirements.
Corresponding membership - (for anyone not participating in HMC activites) is available for $10 a year or $200 for life membership. Simply mail us your contact information (mailing, phone, and email) and a check for the appropriate amount.
Benefits of corresponding membership include subscriptions to the newsletter, journal, access to the library, and invitations to club banquets. For more information please contact HMC secretary Peter McCarthy here.
Donations - If you choose to make a donation, you may specify whether you would like the money to go towards the cabin, the journal, the library, equipment, or if it is for unrestricted use. At any rate, make the check out to "Harvard University" and specify the Harvard Mountaineering Club in the memo line to make your check tax-deductible.
