The Harvard Mountaineering Club caretaker position is filled for the 2005-2006 season. However, people interested in hearing about the cabin may sign up for the low-traffic Friends of the Harvard Cabin email list to hear about openings, maintenance weekends, and more.
The HMC Cabin Liaison will begin accepting applications for the 2008-2009 season on October 1, 2008. Full-time caretakers serve most of the season from December 1 to April 1, whereas fill-in caretakers serve anywhere from a weekend to a long week at a time. Responsibilities include collecting user fees and managing the cabin, posting avalanche and weather data provided by the USFS and AMC, and being available to assist the USFS by carrying a radio at all times. The abilities to work independently and cooperate well with the AMC and USFS are critical. Pay is comparable to similar AMC positions and scales with experience and duration of duty.
Benefits include legendary New England ice climbing and skiing in your backyard.
To apply for the 2008-2009 season, please send a brief letter describing related outdoor experience, first aid training, and climbing experience to HMC Cabin Liaison James Watts at leahboch@fas.harvard.edu between October 1 and November 1, 2008. Please include your contact information (phone, email, permanent address) and dates available for the position.
If you cannot send email, please send your letter to The Harvard Mountaineering Club, 1st Floor University Hall #73, Cambridge, MA 02138.
